CNC Programmer


CNC programmers produce machined parts by programming, setting up and operating the CNC machine to cut and shape work pieces automatically. This work is precise and exacting. Quality and safety standards must be maintained.

Job Description

  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and workpieces.
  • Provides set-ups by installing and adjusting tools, attachments, collets, bushings, gears, stops, and stock pushers.
  • Safely loads and unloads feed mechanism by manually lifting stock into position.
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains awareness of stock to determine amount available; anticipating needed stock, and notifies programmer as necessary.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

Job Requirements

  • Background working in construction or woodworking with strong carpentry experience.
  • High school or equivalent education with some vocational training.
  • Machine tool work or previous CNC operation.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD.
  • Must be able to effectively read and interpret blueprints.
  • Mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Aptitude to work with machines and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to learn new concepts and mechanical principles.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to solve problems.
  • Dependable with a pattern of effective work habits.
